Every February and March, half of Major League Baseball moves to the Phoenix area. The Cactus League has been played in Arizona since 1947, and today 15 teams train at 10 ballparks spread across the Valley - close enough that you can see several teams in a long weekend, and some days two games in one.
The parks split into two clusters: the East Valley (Scottsdale, Mesa and Tempe) and the West Valley (Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise and Goodyear). Pick a base near the teams you most want to see.

The Giants' spring home sits a few blocks from Old Town, so it is the easiest park to pair with lunch, a gallery and a night out - and one of the liveliest crowds in the league.

Surprise Stadium

The farthest northwest of the parks, with a relaxed crowd, good sightlines and easy access to the practice fields in the morning.
Goodyear Ballpark

The westernmost park, with mountain views and a calmer feel. Allow for the longer drive from Scottsdale.

Planning tips
- Timing. Games usually run from late February to late March. Most start in the early afternoon, with a handful of night games.
- Tickets. Weekend games and the popular teams sell out, especially Cubs, Giants and Dodgers dates. Buy early, and consider lawn seats for the atmosphere.
- Go early. Gates open well before first pitch. Morning workouts at the practice fields are often free to watch, and that is the best chance for autographs.
- Sun. March in Phoenix is warm and the afternoon sun is strong. Bring sunscreen, a hat and water, and favor shaded seats behind home plate or along the first-base side.
- Distance. Scottsdale to Goodyear is about 45 minutes without traffic. Group your days by East Valley and West Valley.
- Parking. Lots fill and exit slowly after the last out. Being dropped at the gate and collected at a set point avoids both.

Spring training is one of our busiest seasons. Groups book a Sprinter for 14 or a party bus for a day of two games, dinner and Old Town afterwards - one vehicle, no parking lines and nobody stuck as the designated driver.

Sometimes. A few dates each spring pair an afternoon game with a night game at a nearby park, which makes a doubleheader possible with good planning.
